My background

I was born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1953. My family moved in 1960 to Karachi Pakistan, and after 3-1/2 years to Alexandria Egypt. When we came back to the US in 1965 we moved to Washington DC.

After high school at Hotchkiss, undergraduate school at the University of Pennsylvania and architecture school also at Penn (class of 1979), I moved to Boston.

After working for several architecture firms, I founded Margulies & Associates in 1988. Margulies Perruzzi Architects became an award-winning architecture and interior design firm, with a wide range of Corporate, Professional Services, Science & Technology, Healthcare, and Real Estate Development clients throughout New England.  I served as Principal in Charge for many of MPA’s major projects, including headquarters designs for TJX, Iron Mountain, Cimpress/Vistaprint, Boston Scientific, Hobbs Brook Management, Reliant Medical Group, Middlesex Bank, Forrester Research, and multiple healthcare projects and lab buildings. I was very pleased to have been elected a “Fellow” of the American Institute of Architects in 2016.

I had the honor of being Chair of the Town of Weston Zoning Board of Appeals, Chair of the Board of North Bennet Street, and Chair of the Board of Heading Home where I also lead the design of seven homeless shelters. I am President of the Wharf District Council, focused on mitigating the impacts of sea-level rise on Boston’s waterfront.

Anne and I live variously in Boston, New Hampshire, and Carbondale to be near our three married children and six grandchildren.
